The second in a new series of poems on love and longing. If you haven’t known it yet, this is how love at first sight can feel.
It caught me unawares.
Life until then was led without a care.
Nothing ever mattered to me.
Not bound to anyone. Carefree.
Then she came along.
At the very first sight, lost.
My heartbeats, erratic and fast.
Lost for words, for once,
Jumbled brain, reacting as a dunce.
More stars seen now, in the night sky.
To reach them, I didn’t have to try!
Her beautiful face radiant as the moon.
My heart dancing to an unheard tune.
Never thought this was possible.
Life until then had been clear and simple.
Then she glanced at me,
Giving a disarming sweet smile.
As if struck by lightning, I was for a while.
Something within me seen in a new light,
An unrecognized feeling: Love at first sight.
